Q. Can you tell us about your current work?
I'm an interior and architectural designer in New York. Together with my partner, we lead a studio called HUSBAND WIFE that focuses on residential and commercial work, all approached with a boutique, bespoke sensibility.
Q. 現在の活動内容について教えてください。
ニューヨークを拠点にインテリアと建築のデザインをしています。パートナーとともに立ち上げたデザイン事務所「HUSBAND WIFE」では、住宅から店舗まで幅広くプロジェクトを手掛け、どの案件もブティック的な感性とオーダーメイドならではの丁寧なアプローチを大切にしています。
Q. What principles guide your design?
I would say balance and tension. As a husband and wife team, we inherently bring a sense of amalgamation, blending our two perspectives together with every choice that
gets made. It’s not about gender, but about contrasts: yin and yang, hard and soft, light and dark, quiet and loud. That duality is something we try to reflect in everything that we do.
Q. デザインにおいて大切にしていることは何ですか？
「バランス」と「緊張感」ですね。夫婦でチームを組んでいることもあって、どんな選択にも自然と二人の視点が混じり合っていくんです。男性と女性というようなジェンダーの話ではなく、陰と陽、硬さと柔らかさ、明と暗、静と動.......といったコントラストのこと。そういう二面性をできる限りすべてのデザインに取り入れるようにしています。
Q. What role does clothing play in your daily life and work?
I’ve loved fashion since I was a kid, when my mom used to bring home copies of Vogue. It has always felt like a natural part of my life. I tend to gravitate toward more structured pieces, and it’s important to me that what I
wear reflects who I am. At the same time, now it has to be wearable and versatile, pieces that can transition easily throughout the day.
Q. 日常や仕事の中で、服はどんな役割を果たしていますか？
ファッションは子どもの頃から大好きで、母が『Vogue』を家に持って帰ってきてくれたことを今でもよく覚えています。ファッションは人生の一部としてずっとあった気がします。構築的な服に惹かれがちで、身につけるものが自分を表現してくれることがすごく大切だと思っているんです。でも同時に、今の私には着やすくて万能で、一日を通してさまざまなシーンに馴染む服であることも欠かせませんね。
Q. You have twins. Has becoming a parent changed how you approach clothing?
Definitely. I can’t really do heels the way I used to anymore, and I also find myself wearing more black with the kids always spilling things. As a business owner and a parent, I am rushing all the time. My style has shifted toward comfort—something I can rely on to get me through everything from school drop-off to the office, meetings,
and dinner.
Q. 双子のお子さんがいらっしゃいますが、親になってから服の選び方に変化はありましたか？
もちろんです。もう以前のようにヒールは履けなくなりましたし、子どもたちがよく何かをこぼすので自然と黒を選ぶことも増えました。それに経営者であり親でもあるから、いつもバタバタなんです。だからこそ、今の私のスタイルは快適さが何より優先。学校への送り迎えから通勤、打ち合わせ、そしてディナーまで、どんなときも頼りになる服が必要です。
Q. With such a busy lifestyle, how do you reset or refresh yourself?
Running is my way of resetting. It’s the one time I can’t look at my phone or talk to anyone. As a parent of twins, you quickly learn you can only control what you can control. Nothing is ever perfectly packaged. For me, it’s been about embracing the chaos and, within that, finding those small moments of balance.
Q. 忙しい毎日の中で、どうやって気持ちを切り替えたりリフレッシュしていますか？
ランニングですね。唯一スマホも見られないし誰とも話さない時間ですから。双子の親になると、自分でコントロールできることなんて限りがあると実感します。すべてが完璧に整うなんてありえない。そんな中でカオスを受け入れて、小さなバランスの瞬間を見つけることが大切なんだと日々感じています。
Q. How do you feel in SOÉJU clothes?
I love the clothes! They’re versatile and move easily from day to night. The fabrics are exquisite, well-tailored, and great for travel. The pieces fit seamlessly into my lifestyle. It almost feels like the perfect uniform.
Q. SOÉJUの服を着てみて、いかがですか？
すごく気に入っています！ どんなシーンにも対応できて、朝から夜まで難なく着られます。生地は上質で仕立ても美しく、旅行にも最適ですね。私のライフスタイルにすっと溶け込んでくれて、本当に理想的なユニフォームのように感じます。
Q. In terms of clothing, what do “simplicity” and “essentials” mean to you?
Sometimes simplicity is best—a white T-shirt, a pair of jeans, or a black jacket. There’s a world where all of these can be worn together. I consider these essentials: simple, timeless pieces. I hold onto them forever with lasting power in my wardrobe.
Q. 服を選ぶうえで「シンプル」や「エッセンシャル」はどんな意味を持ちますか？
「シンプル」というと、洗練された白いTシャツやデニム、ブラックジャケットのような服のことに思いますが、それらすべてを身につけたひとつの世界観のようにも感じますし、そうしたエッセンシャルなスタイルをいつも身につけています。それらはいつまでも着続けられるタイムレスなもので、ずっと手放さずに私のワードローブにおいて長く力を持ち続ける存在です。
Q. How has living in New York influenced your sensibility and style?
It’s impossible not to be inspired in New York. I moved here from Los Angeles, and the transition was challenging. At first the city can feel overwhelming, but once you’re immersed, it opens up and becomes endlessly stimulating. There’s this unique mix of cultures and self-expression, and our work is deeply inspired by that as well.
I think about fashion in much the same way. It’s about the mix, whether high and low, new and old.
Q. ニューヨークでの暮らしは、ご自身の感性やスタイルにどんな影響を与えていますか？
ニューヨークにいるとインスピレーションを受けずにはいられません。ロサンゼルスからここに引っ越してきたときは馴染むまでとにかく大変で。最初は圧倒されるような街ですが、どっぷりとここに身を置いてみると刺激が尽きることはありません。多様なカルチャーと自由な自己表現がユニークに混ざり合っていて、そのエネルギーが私たちの仕事にも大きな影響を与えています。ファッションも同じで、ハイとロー、新しいものと古いものをミックスするのがこの街の自然な感覚なんですよね。
Q. What challenges have you faced so far, and what challenges do you hope to take on in the future?
Starting and building a design practice was my greatest challenge, and it’s still very much a learning process. I feel grateful every day to have a happy, healthy workplace with amazing clients and an incredible team. More than anything, I just hope this journey continues.
Q.これまで経験してきた挑戦、そして今後チャレンジしてみたいことを教えてください。
振り返ってみると、デザイン事務所を立ち上げて軌道に乗せることが、これまでで最大のチャレンジだったと思います。本当に学びの連続で、形になるまでには何年もかかりました。でも今は、健全で幸せだと感じられる職場を築くことができ、素晴らしいクライアントや最高のチームに恵まれていることに心から感謝しています。正直、このまま続いてくれたらそれだけで十分ですね。
